NCPA Promotes Pharmacist’s Role in Health Care Reform, PBM Transparency

By Kevin Schweers

Recently NCPA took two of our priorities to the pages of two influential publications.

Too often, community pharmacists are underutilized in today’s health care system. They are uniquely qualified and positioned to help patients improve health outcomes while holding down costs. That’s the case made by NCPA’s Bruce Roberts, RPh, and Ricky Guidry, RPh, of the Louisiana Independent Pharmacies Association in a new column published by Modern Healthcare.

CVS Caremark is chiefly responsible for management of the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program’s prescription drug coverage and these efforts have come under intense scrutiny and criticism this year. A key Congressional subcommittee continues to examine how to make the program a better deal for Feds and taxpayers, such as through more transparent pharmacy benefit management models. Bruce Roberts writes about this and offers some specific solutions in Federal Times, a weekly publication widely read in the executive branch departments and agencies in Washington.
